What You Will Learn

According to a recent American Tort Reform Association survey, almost one-third of all high school principals have been named in a lawsuit, compared to only nine percent just 10 years ago. Typical allegations that educators must defend themselves against include:

  • Failure to supervise a classroom
  • Sexual harassment
  • Wrongful termination
  • Discrimination
  • Breaches of duty, neglect, errors or omissions
  • Failure to respond to or prevent bullying activities

We know that most schools operate day-to-day without a hitch and that most employees who work in education want to make a difference and show up on the job intending to do their jobs as well as possible. But, because of challenges educators face daily such as the increasing lack of respect for authority in our society, students and parents who are trauma survivors, cyber and physical bullying, and the pervasive use of social media school culture has become more volatile than ever.  Unfortunately, it is simply naive to think that just because an educator is trying to do a good job, that he or she is immune from being sued. This 90-minute webinar will open your eyes to liability landmines that every educator should know about and avoid.

  • Learn how to avoid being sued for personal injury negligence.
  • Understand the ins and outs of employment discrimination claims.
  • Discover the grounds for harassment and bullying claims and what you need to do to avoid a suit.
  • Understand what constitutes a breach of duty, error or omission in the world of education.
